Sero Zero Waste is Newport’s first zero waste/refill store. In order to help people make the switch to shopping sustainably we aim to provide convenient and accessible package free options to everyday food shopping and eco friendly products, as well as exceptional customer service. We are not just a retail space but are also passionate about acting as a hub for the community to take action against single use plastic and help create change through education and encouragement.

Job Description

As our retail assistant, not only will you be responsible for supporting the shop manager in the daily operations of the store including interacting with and serving customers, helping to manage inventory, handling stock, ensuring a safe, clean and aesthetically pleasing shop environment. You will also play a major role in advocating for change and supporting the community with sustainability initiatives and outreach, such as Repair Cafe’s, clothes swaps, green workshops and assisting local businesses. You will also have the opportunity to use your creativity to help run our social media platforms ensuring we are reaching as many people as possible!

You should be confident in managing the shop on your own as you will be required to work solo (training will be provided) which will see you opening and closing the shop as well as end of day cleaning. 

To succeed as a retail assistant you should be self-sufficient, able to learn and retain new information and have a friendly and congenial manner. Suitable candidates will demonstrate excellent interpersonal, organisational and problem-solving skills.

Employment type	Part Time, Fixed Term: 9 months (possibility of extension) Start Date: 2nd April 2022 Wage: £9.50/hour Minimum 5.5 hours/week Sunday 9:30am - 3pm (5.5 hours) Shop opening hours 10am - 2pm (opportunity for additional overtime at £9.50/hour)
Responsibilities	Manage the operation of the shop Interact with and serve customers Assist with managing inventory and handling stock Ensure a safe, clean and aesthetically pleasing shop environment.  Support community events Input ideas for social media and outreach  Check website for online orders  Fulfil online and click and collect orders Print sales reports (training provided) Record number of refills from customers each day Refill dispensers  Use scale/till system (training provided) Open and close shop  Clean shop area and equipment ready for the next day (Close to open)
Experience/ skills Required	Essential: A working knowledge of zero waste/refill Exceptional customer service skills Excellent verbal and written communication skills  Organisational skills and attention to detail Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills Basic computer skills Desirable: Full UK drivers licence Knowledge of point of sale software Experience in a retail environment  Good maths skills  Good at multitasking Interest in social media content creating Experience in running/managing events
